HUNTSVILLE, Texas, Nov. 1, 2016 - The October women’s national team camp came to a close today at the USA Gymnastics National Team Training Center at the Karolyi Ranch, an official U.S. Olympic Training Site. The camp comes after Team USA’s historic nine-medal haul at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, including the team gold medal. Olympic champion Valeri Liukin, who was named USA Gymnastics’ women’s national team coordinator in September, led the camp.

“I am very pleased with the progress displayed during this camp,” Liukin said. “We have a solid foundation as the year begins to wind down, and we look toward the beginning of a new Olympic cycle in 2017.”

The U.S. women have one final camp in 2016, scheduled for Nov. 30 to Dec. 4.

Physical abilities testing opened the camp with Gabby Perea of Geneva, Ill./Legacy Elite, Maile O’Keefe of Las Vegas/Salcianu Elite, and Emily Schild of Huntersville, N.C./Everest, taking the top three spots. In addition, athletes verified one-third routines on the uneven bars and balance beam.

The U.S. women are expected to participate in the International Gymnastics Federation’s all-around World Cup series, including the AT&T American Cup, scheduled for March 4 in Newark, N.J., as well as the Jesolo (Italy) Trophy in late March.
