Karmansky Seeks First National Rhythmic Gymnastics Title at Visa Championsh

INDIANAPOLIS, July 30, 2005 Acaa Four-time national silver-medalist Olga Karmansky of Brooklyn, N.Y., and two-time junior national champion Rachel Marmer of Los Angeles headline the rhythmic gymnastics field for the | 2005 VISA CHAMPIONSHIPS | Aug. 10-13 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis.

Other top athletes in the field to watch are: Lisa Wang of Buffalo Grove, Ill., 2005 Rhythmic Challenge all-around silver medalist; Brenann Stacker of Lincolnshire, Ill., 2005 Rhythmic Challenge all-around bronze medalist; and Julie Zetlin of Bethesda, Md., 2005 Rhythmic Challenge junior elite all-around champion.

Karmansky, who competes for Nova Athletics, won the gold at the 2005 Rhythmic Challenge and also took second all-around at the 2003 Pan American Games. She has been at the top of U.S. rhythmic gymnastics, earning all-around silver medals in the past four rhythmic gymnastics national championships and won national titles in both clubs and ribbon in 2004.

Marmer, who competes for Hollywood Academy, recently won the junior division’s all-around gold medal at the Aphrodite International Rhythmic Competition. She was the only U.S. athlete in the competition. Earlier this year, Marmer earned five medals, including a gold in ribbon, at the Torneio Internacional de Portimao in Portimao, Portugal. She has also won the junior title at the past two Visa Championships, including a sweep of all four events and the all-around in 2004.

Rhythmic gymnastics involves choreographed routines set to music and requires an immense amount of flexibility. Rhythmic gymnasts incorporate dance with the constant movement of one of five apparatuses: rope, hoop, clubs, ribbon and ball.

Tickets for rhythmic gymnastics events at the Visa Championships are $15 for junior and senior all-around competition held Aug. 11 at 9:30 a.m. and $20 for junior and senior rhythmic finals Aug. 13 at 10 a.m. All-session tickets which include both rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics are available for $40. The Visa Championships, USA gymnastics’ national championship, also include men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, as well as the national team trials for acrobatic gymnastics.
