Leyva wins high bar gold at 2015 Mexican Open

MEXICO CITY, Mexico, Dec. 3, 2015 - Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla/Team Hilton (Universal Gymnastics), won the horizontal bar gold medal at the recent 2015 Mexican Open in Mexico City, Mexico, Nov. 28. He brought home a total of four medals: gold – horizontal bar; silver – floor exercise and pommel horse; bronze – all-around.

Leyva easily won the high bar crown with his 15.900, bringing home the gold medal. Germany’s Christopher Jursh was second at 15.000, with Spain’s Nestor Abad taking third at 14.950.

In the men's all-around, Leyva was third with his 85.650. Japan’s Chihiro Yoshioka won the title with an 87.000 followed by Spain’s Nestor Abad at 86.900.

On floor, Leyva earned the silver with a 14.050, finishing just behind Yoshioka, who won the gold medal with a 14.200 . Kevin Cerda of Mexico placed third with a 13.850.

Leyva garnered his second silver medal with his performance on pommel horse, where he scored a 14.500. Yoshioka placed first with a 14.650, and Nester Abad of Spain posted a 14.250 to earn bronze.

Additionally, Leyva placed fourth on rings with a 14,000, fifth on parallel bars with a 13.350 and sixth on vault with a 13.850. The remaining champions were: still rings and vault – Yoshioka; parallel bars – Nestor.
