U.S. wins GBR-USA intrasquad competition

LILLESHALL, Great Britain, March 4, 2015 – The U.S. men’s team posted a team score of 270.200 today during a joint USA-Great Britain intrasquad competition, which was held in Lilleshall, Great Britain. Great Britain fielded two teams, which posted scores of 263.100 and 257.800.

The members of Team USA who participated were: Jake Dalton of Sparks, Nev./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Oklahoma); Marvin Kimble of Milwaukee/Swiss Turners; Steven Legendre of Port Jefferson, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Oklahoma); Danell Leyva of Miami/Team Hilton HHonors (Universal Gymnastics); Alex Naddour of Gilbert, Ariz./Team Hilton HHonors (USA Youth Fitness Center); and Paul Ruggeri of Manlius, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center).

The U.S. team began on the still rings, where they posted a 44.300 total. Dalton and Naddour posted the team’s highest scores at 14.800. On the vault, Naddour once again notched the top mark for the U.S. squad, earning a 15.450 for his Tsukahara double pike. Dalton posted a 15.250 for his Kasamatsu double full, and Ruggeri earned a 15.150 for a Yurchenko half-on, front double full off. The team earned a 45.850.

On the parallel bars, Leyva, the 2014 World silver medalist on the event, earned the team high – 15.800 – helping the U.S. to a 43.600 total. Kimble had the next best score with a 14.900. The U.S. scored a 46.800 on the high bar – counting no score lower than a 15.250. Leyva posted a 16.000, followed by Ruggeri, 15.550, and Kimble, 15.250.

Dalton led the way on the floor exercise with a 15.950. Naddour and Ruggeri posted scores of 14.900 and 15.200, respectively, to round out the USA’s 46.050 on the event. In the final rotation, Naddour earned the highest score on the pommel horse with a 15.600. Kimble posted a 14.200, and Leyva added a 13.800. The team’s total was 43.600.
