PHILADELPHIA, Aug. 15, 2014 – A sold-out crowd attended the recent "An Evening with Bill Cosby," a fundraiser for Temple University’s men’s gymnastics program. Held at the Independence Visitor Center, the intimate evening with one of the country’s best known and loved comedians is expected to raise more than $10,000 in admission, along with another $3,000 through a silent auction.

Cosby, a Temple alum, offered to perform for a benefit concert after Temple University announced it was dropping men’s gymnastics from the school’s varsity program last December. The team is raising money to support the program going forward. A minimum of $200,000 is needed to operate as a club program, and according to a Philadelphia Inquirer story, Temple coach Fred Turoff has already raised $76,000, with an expectation of $22,000 additional dollars and a possible matching grant.
