Sereda, Zeng wins all-around at 2014 Rhythmic Challenge

INDIANAPOLIS, Feb. 16, 2014 – Rebecca Sereda of Staten Island, N.Y., and Laura Zeng of Libertyville, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, won the senior and junior all-around titles, respectively, at the 2014 Rhythmic Challenge held the U.S. Olympic Training Center's Sports Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Sereda claimed the senior title by earning a 62.800 total for the all-around. Aliya Protto of California Rhythms/Culver City, Calif., was second at 62.050, and Jazzy Kerber of Highland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, rounded out the top three with her 61.450 total. Sereda's 16.800 was not only the highest clubs score, but it also was the highest score in the competition. Her other event scores were: hoop, 15.450; ball, 15.150; and ribbon, 15.400.

Protto tied for the top score for ball at 15.850 with Serena Lu of Isadora/Staten Island, N.Y. Protto's other event scores were: hoop, 15.400; clubs, 16.750; and ribbon, 14.050. Kerber claimed hoop's highest mark at 15.750. She and Lu both posted 15.700 for ribbon. Kerber's remaining event scores were 14.250 for ball and a 15.750 for clubs.

Cindy Lu of Isadora/Staten Island, N.Y., was fourth, and Serena Lu finished fifth in the all-around.

Zeng easily won the junior title, posting a 61.850 for the all-around. She also took first in all four events: 15.950, hoop; 15.200, ball; 15.600, clubs; and 15.100, ribbon. Nastasya Generalova of California Rhythms/Los Angeles, Calif., was second in the all-around with 57.750, followed by Camilla Feeley of North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center/Lincolnshire, Ill., in third at 57.700.

The Rhythmic Invitational, which features the top junior and senior rhythmic gymnasts from the USA, was held in conjunction with the Rhythmic Challenge.
