Benck joins USA Gymnastics Board of Directors

INDIANAPOLIS, Dec. 17, 2013 Acaa David M. Benck of Birmingham, Ala., has joined the Board of Directors for USA Gymnastics as a public sector member. Benck, whose Board term goes through 2017, is the vice president and general counsel for Hibbett Sporting Goods in Birmingham, Ala. He was voted onto the Board at the recent meeting of the USA Gymnastics Board of Directors.

Benck has served on the Ethics, Grievance and Safe Sport Committee for USA Gymnastics. He also is a member of the Board of Directors for the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and International Centre for Dispute Resolution. He also is an AAA arbitrator in commercial, employment and sport disputes.

"David will be an excellent addition to our Board," said Peter Vidmar, chairman of the Board of Directors and a 1984 Olympic gold medalist. "He has been an invaluable member of our Ethics, Grievance and Safe Sport Committee, and his experience with Hibbett and other sports and industry groups will give an added dimension of expertise to our Board. We look forward to working with him in the coming months and years."

Benck's current and past experience also includes: adjunct law professor at the Cumberland School of Law; member of the Norton Board of Advisors for Birmingham-Southern College; member of the Board of Directors for both the Business Council of Alabama and the Bryant-Jordan Scholarship Award; legal counsel for the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame; and is listed as an arbitrator for the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the U.S. Council for International Business, and the London Court of International Arbitration Arbitrator Databases.

He graduated from Birmingham-Southern College, with a Bachelor of Arts in economics, earned his Juris Doctorate from the University of Alabama School of Law. Hibbett Sporting Goods is a full-line sporting goods distributor, headquartered in Birmingham, with more than 900 retail locations in approximately 30 U.S. states.
