Douglas wins two BET Awards

LOS ANGELES, June 30, 2013 Acaa 2012 Olympic team and all-around gold medalist Gabrielle Douglas of Virginia Beach, Va./Chow's Gymnastics and Dance, won two BET Awards during yesterday's awards show hosted by blockbuster movie star and comedian Chris Tucker; R&B artist Chris Brown; hip hop artist Kendrick Lamar; and singer and television personality Tamar Braxton at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. She won the Subway Sportswoman of the Year and the YoungStars Award.

For Sportswoman of the Year, Douglas earned the honor over 2012 Olympic champions Candace Parker (basketball), Serena Williams (singles and doubles tennis) and Venus Williams (doubles tennis), as well as collegiate basketball star Brittney Griner.

Douglas also took top honors for the YoungStars Award, ahead of fellow nominees Jacob Latimore, recording artist and actor; Keke Palmer, actress and singer/songwriter; Jaden Smith, actor and rapper; and QuvenzhanAA(C) Wallis, actress.

This year's BET Awards were televised live on June 30 on BET.
