Portugal's World Challenge Cup begins tomorrow

INDIANAPOLIS, June 20, 2013 – 2012 Olympian Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./University of Michigan, Eddie Penev of Penfield, N.Y./Stanford University, and Brandon Wynn of Columbus, Ohio/Ohio State University, are competing in the International Gymnastics Federation's World Challenge Cup – Portugal 2013 in Anadia, Portugal. The qualification round for the men's events is slated for June 21, with the competition wrapping up on June 23. The event, which has a field of 170 athletes from 33 countries, is part of the FIG's World Cup series and features individual event competition.

The current U.S. competition plan, which may be adjusted onsite, is: floor exercise – Mikulak, Penev; pommel horse – Mikulak, Penev; still rings – Wynn; vault – Mikulak, Penev; parallel bars – Mikulak, Wynn; and horizontal bar – Mikulak.

The qualification round for all six apparatus is Friday, June 21. The finals for floor exercise, pommel horse and still rings are scheduled for June 22. The competition concludes on Sunday, June 23, with finals for vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar.
