2012 Olympic gold-medalists Aly Raisman of Needham, Mass./Brestyan’s American Gymnastics, and judoka Kayla Harrison of Marblehead, Mass., were named the Boston Globe Magazine’s Bostonians of the Year. The honor was announced in the Dec. 23 issue of the magazine.

Raisman helped the U.S. women, now known as The Fierce FiveSM, to the country’s second-ever team gold medal and went on to win the USA’s first floor exercise gold medal and a bronze for the balance beam. She captured the most medals by an American gymnast.

Harrison became the first U.S. male or female to win a gold medal in judo.
