Gymnasts of the Week – March 5-6, 2022

Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices and the College Gymnastics Association. More will be added throughout the week as they become available.

NCAA Rookie of the Week
Nick Kuebler - Stanford
Freshman Nick Kuebler managed the second-highest score in the nation on floor exercise on Saturday, posting a 14.600 to win the event title, en route to being named CGA Rooke of the Week on Wednesday. Kuebler also competed on pommel horse on Saturday, placing third overall with a career-best score of 13.750. The selection is the first of Kuebler's career and the fifth for the Cardinal this season. Khoi Young (Feb. 2, Feb. 16, March 2) and Ian Lasic-Ellis (Feb. 9) have also been lauded.

Gymnast of the Week
Paul Juda - Michigan
  • Captured all seven event titles (six individual plus all-around) in Michigan's tri-meet victory at Army West Point and against William & Mary on March 5
  • Posted a season-high score on the parallel bars (14.800), also the fourth-best in the nation this year
  • Paced the Wolverines to a season-best team score (412.850)
  • Collects his fourth career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award
Freshman of the Week
Travis Wong - Nebraska
  • Posted a new career-high score of 13.450 on the pommel horse to finish seventh in a quad meet on March 5 in Lincoln
  • Helped the Huskers come away with a victory to move into a three-way tie for first in the Big Ten standings
  • Earns his second career Big Ten Freshman of the Week award

Eastern College Athletic Conference
Gymnast of the Week
Zak Mitchell – Army
Mitchell had a stellar performance over the weekend, helping the Black Knights to a win over William & Mary. Zak led Army West Point on pommel horse with a career-high 13.0 and placed third on horizontal bar with a season-high 13.1.

Specialist of the Week
Jakarie Williams – Springfield
Williams had his best showing of the season as he tied for second on both the floor (13.9) and vault (14.3) against Oklahoma and William & Mary with his best scores of the season.

Rookie of the Week
Zachary Perez – Army
Perez had the best competition of his collegiate career over the weekend for Army West Point. Zachary stuck his dismount and scored both a career-high and team-best 13.35 on the horizontal bar. He placed second to Michigan's Paul Juda, who is ranked #1 in the country on the event. His 13.35 on horizontal bar was the top score on the event in the ECAC over the weekend.

Gymnast of the Week
Brody Malone - Stanford
Stanford senior Brody Malone (Summerville, GA) earned the meet's highest scores on high bar (14.400), pommel horse (14.100) and parallel bars (14.400), among his four events in the Stanford triangular against No. 8 California and No. 12 Air Force (Mar. 5). Malone added a 14.300 fourth-place routine on still rings to help the Cardinal achieve the NCAA's highest overall score of the year (419.000). This is the eighth career MPSF weekly award for Malone.
