Gymnasts of the Week – Feb. 19-20, 2022

Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices and the College Gymnastics Association.

Zach Nunez - Oklahoma
Sophomore Zach Nunez took his first all-around title against No. 3 Nebraska with a career-high 82.850, tallying four career bests in individual events. He posted new career highs on floor (13.700), pommel horse (14.200), still rings (13.600) and parallel bars (13.700). Nunez notched a 14.200 on vault and capped the night with a 13.550 on high bar.

NCAA Rookie of the Week
Emre Dodanli - Oklahoma
In the third meet of his collegiate career, freshman Emre Dodanli scored a 14.000 to start off the night for Oklahoma. His performance helped the Sooners to a season-high 69.700 score on floor, assisting in a 414.200-403.300 victory over No. 3 Nebraska.

NCAA Specialist of the Week
Donovan Hewitt - Ohio State
Hewitt posted the highest vault score in the country this week with a career-best 14.800 and a stuck landing to win the event during a tri-meet win against Army and William & Mary on Saturday. Only two other individuals have earned at least a 14.800 on vault this season. Hewitt also finished second overall on rings with a strong 14.000. He ranks fourth in the nation on rings and eighth on vault.

Jesse Tyndall - Ohio State
  • Picked up individual event victories on the rings (14.100) and high bar (13.750) in the Buckeyes' tri-meet win at home over Army West Point and William & Mary on Feb. 19
  • Also finished third on the parallel bars (13.500)
  • Two-time Academic All-Big Ten selection (2020, 2021) who also was named a 2021 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar
  • Collects his second career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award
Freshman of the Week
Travis Wong - Nebraska
  • Recorded a career-high score on the pommel horse (12.15) in Nebraska's meet at Oklahoma on Feb. 19
  • Helped the Huskers best the Sooners in that event with a team score of 67.45
  • Earns his first career Big Ten Freshman of the Week award

Eastern College Athletic Conference
Gymnast of the Week
Matthew Davis – Army
Mathew Davis won the all-around and floor exercise titles this past weekend at #5 Ohio State. Davis was also the Black Knights' top scorer on pommel horse, vault, and horizontal bar. Davis helped the team to a victory over William & Mary.

Specialist of the Week
Sam Lee – William & Mary
Sam Lee led the Tribe on Vault (13.70), Pbars (12.80) and High Bar (12.50) vs. Ohio State and Army. He placed 5th on PB and 4th on HB, earning a season high score on high bar. This is Lee's first honor this season after being honored as the ECAC Rookie of the Year last season.

Rookie of the Week
Andrae Butler – Springfield
Andrae Butler took runner-up honors on the floor following a career-best performance (13.45) and placed fifth on the vault versus Navy (13.90).

Yu-Chen Lee - California
California senior Yu-Chen Lee (Taiwan, Taipei) compiled a career-high and first-place all-around of 80.600 after scoring personal-bests on the pommel horse (12.300), still rings (13.600) and parallel bars (13.800) in the Bears' home win over No. 13 Air Force (Feb. 20). He won the rings, high bar (13.150), and floor (13.650), and took second on parallel bars and third on vault (14.100). Lee helped the Cal pommel horse and parallel bars squads reach their second-best totals in modern program history, scoring 66.250 and 68.750, respectively.
