Gymnasts of the Week – Jan. 23-24, 2021


Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices. More will be added throughout the week as they become available.

National

NCAA Gymnast of the Week
Hamish Carter - Illinois
Carter collected two event titles on parallel bars (13.400) and all-around (80.500) in the victory over Ohio State. He also placed in the top four in five different events in the win. This is Carter's third career Gymnast of the Week honor, last receiving the award Feb. 4, 2020.

NCAA Rookie of the Week
Zach Nunez - Oklahoma
Nunez, a freshman out of Cypress, Texas, claimed his first career "of the week" honor, winning College Gymnastics Association's Rookie of the Week following his strong performance against Air Force. Nunez paced the OU squad on pommel horse in his first meet inside McCasland Field House, recording a career-best 13.750 to claim the event title. Nunez also chipped in a 13.150 on high bar, his first time competing the event for the Sooners.

NCAA Specialist of the Week
Ian Skirkey - Illinois
Myers placed in the top 10 in three different events, including a top-five finish on rings (13.400) and parallel bars (13.100). His score on rings was a career-best for the freshman. Myers claims his first Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor, one week after being named College Gymnastics Association Freshman of the Week.

Gymnast of the Week
Hamish Carter - Illinois
  • Claimed two individual titles and placed in the top four in five events to lead Illinois past Ohio State on Jan. 23
  • Won his fourth career all-around title, and first this season (80.500), along with the parallel bars crown (13.400)
  • Named an Academic All-Big Ten honoree last year
  • Earns his third career Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award and first this season
Freshman of the Week
Logan Myers - Illinois
  • Finished in the top 10 in three events, including two top-five showings, as Illinois bested Ohio State on Jan. 23
  • Earned third-place honors on the parallel bars (13.100)
  • Also finished fifth on the rings (career-high 13.400) and a career-best ninth on the vault (13.700)
  • Collects his first career Freshman of the Week award

Gymnast of the Week
Morgan Seyler - Oklahoma
Oklahoma junior Morgan Seyler (Flower Mound, TX) won the all-around crown in the Sooners’ first home meet of 2021 against Air Force (Jan. 23), putting up a 76.700 to win the title by three points. Seyler registered career-bests on still rings (13.300) and high bar (13.100) and collected a runner-up finish on floor exercise with a 14.300 routine. This is the first career MPSF weekly award for Seyler.
