Gymnasts of the Week – March 17-18, 2018


Gymnast of the Week awards are given by conference offices.

Big Ten Conference

Gymnast of the Week
Yaroslav Pochinka - Minnesota
* Took home two first place finishes, in the still rings and the vault, on Senior Day for the Gophers
* His vault score of 15.100 tied for the second highest mark in the country this season and the senior defeated the second place still rings competitor by six tenths
* The two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree collects his first Big Ten Gymnast of the Week award

Freshman of the Week
Shane Wiskus - Minnesota
* Won the all-around competition with a career-high score of 83.050, as well as set a new career high on high bar with a 14.000 for the event title
* Finished third in the vault with a career-high score (14.750), second on still rings (13.700) and third on pommel horse (13.800)
* Earns his sixth Big Ten Freshman of the Week award

Gymnast of the Week
Stephen Lewis - Springfield
Lewis continues his outstanding sophomore campaign by once again breaking the 80-point plateau in the all-around. On Sunday competing against ECAC rival Army and Springfield's final home meet of the season he scored an 80.1 in the all-around. That score was good enough for Lewis to win the all-around. His scores consisted of a 13.9 on floor, 12.95 pommel horse, 13.1 rings, 14.15 vault, 12.7 parallel bars and a 13.3 on the high bar.

Specialist of the Week
Tanner West - Navy
West was the top finishing Midshipmen on both rings and the vault in a tri-meet with Michigan and William & Mary. Those that finished ahead of West were all from Michigan gymnastics. West tied for third overall on the rings with a 13.9 and tied for fourth overall on vault with a 14.0.

Rookie of the Week
David Toussaint - Navy
Toussaint remains in the weekly awards for the third straight week. He won the pommel horse with a score of 13.8 which was .025 points ahead of second place. He also added a 13.6 on the floor exercise which tied him for sixth overall. The scores helped to contribute to a second place finish in a tri-meet against Michigan and William & Mary.

Gymnast of the Week
Yul Moldauer - Oklahoma
Oklahoma junior Yul Moldauer (Arvada, CO) claimed event titles on all three events he competed in at No. 4 Illinois (Mar. 17), bringing his total first-place finishes this season to 15. He scored above a 14.600 on pommel horse (14.700), still rings (14.650) and parallel bars (14.850) and led OU to a crucial road victory. He also helped put Oklahoma Men’s Gymnastics in the NCAA Division I all-time top-five for most consecutive victories with 88. This is the sixth career MPSF weekly award for Moldauer, including four this year.
