U.S. Center for SafeSport
In 2012 The United States Olympic and Paralympic Movements created the SafeSport program to improve athlete safety across the U.S. Olympic Committee’s (USOC’s) 47 sport National Governing Bodies (NGBs). To further those efforts, the USOC created the U.S. Center for SafeSport in March 2017. Located in Denver, CO, The Center seeks to enable every athlete to thrive by fostering a national sport culture of respect and safety, on and off the playing field. The Center’s nine-member board of directors includes subject-matter experts in the areas of abuse prevention and investigation, ethics compliance and sports administration.
The Center has exclusive jurisdiction to investigate and resolve alleged Code violations involving sexual misconduct. (However, The Center has discretionary authority over other policy violations, including physical misconduct, emotional misconduct, bullying, hazing and harassment.) The Center’s jurisdiction includes Covered Individuals, as defined in USA Gymnastics’ Safe Sport Policy.
To cultivate and steward a culture of dignity and respect in sport.

Enable every athlete to thrive by fostering a national sport culture of respect and safety, on and off the field of play.

Every athlete is safe, supported and strengthened through sport.
  • Safe. Athletes are protected from emotional, physical and sexual abuse.
  • Supported. Athletes enjoy welcome, respectful environments, and diversity is actively embraced.
  • Strengthened. Athletes use the skills they’ve learned in sport to contribute to the well-being of their communities.
Covered Individuals are required to report suspected or known child sexual abuse to local law enforcement, even if they are not a mandated reporter in their state. After having fulfilled that requirement, Covered Individuals are then required to notify the U.S. Center for SafeSport.

Covered Individuals who fail to report SafeSport Code violations may be subject to disciplinary action.
