Sexual Abuse Prevention workshops available at the 2019 National Congress and Region’s 1 and 6 Congresses. The workshops are provided by the Athlete Assistance Fund (The AAF) in partnership with The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (The NYSPCC).

With the introduction of the Safe Sport Authorization Act of 2017, USAG coaches and business owners are now legally mandated to report suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect. In this 90-minute workshop, you will learn what it means to be a mandated reporter, how to evaluate a situation to determine if there is reasonable cause to suspect child abuse and/or neglect, and what your legal responsibility for reporting is.

Topics discussed include: the legal framework underlying mandated reporting and the child protective system, how to appropriately respond to a child who discloses abuse, and how to effectively report child abuse or neglect. Coaches and gym owners will leave the training confident in knowing how to effectively handle any child protection issue that may arise; proficient in how to protect the children they work with as well as safeguard themselves and their employees. Attendees will receive a certificate of participation to display in their gym, as well as, USAG University credit.
