Zmeskal retired from gymnastics in 2000... the first American to win the all-around at a World Championships (1991)... scored eight perfect 10.00's in her career... the only competitor at the 1992 World Championships to win more than one event... was chosen the "1992 Athlete of the Year" by her national teammates... honored by the Women's Sports Foundation with the "1990 Up & Coming" award... was named U.S. Olympic Committee SportsWoman of the Year and March of Dimes Athlete of the Year in 1991...was a member the National Honor Society in high school and was a two-time AAU Sullivan Award nominee.
