2023 Acrobatic Gymnastics Winter Selection Event
Jan. 18-19, 2023 - Chandler, Ariz.
ABOUT
The 2023 Acrobatic Gymnastics Winter Selection Event will serve as the selection event to determine the 2023 Spring International assignments. This event will be used to add additional pair/groups to the National team for the remainder of the 2023 season until Gym Champs. This event will also be used as a re-ranking event for current national team members. If you are a current National Team member and wanting a spring international assignment you must compete in this event to receive a spring assignment.



EVENT ORGANIZERS AND STAFF

  • This hotel block is specifically for the athletes/coaches/USA Gymnastics Staff. If parents are wanting to book at this same hotel, please book outside of the block to ensure that we have enough rooms for everyone participating in the selection event.

  • Athletes and Coaches are responsible for securing/booking hotel rooms. Please keep in mind current Safe Sport travel policies.
  • Current Senior national team members rooms will be booked by USA Gymnastics following Safe Sport policies.


REGISTRATION
Entry fees are a flat fee of $75.00 per athlete. Current National Team Athletes will not pay the registration fee for this selection event. Please email Kyla Knights (kknights@usagym.org) the names of the National Team group and their level and she will assist you in registering the National Team Athletes.

Registration deadline is Friday, December 23, 2022. We will not be accepting late entries.



AIRPORT
Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport (PHX). The Airport is located about 15-20min from the hotel.

Arrival at PHX Tuesday, January 17th competition will start promptly in the morning on January 18th.

Departures from PHX on either Thursday January 19th after 7pm, or January 20th anytime. It is recommended that departing flights are at minimum 4 hours after the end of the competition session (a detailed competition schedule will be available following the registration deadline).



LOCAL TRANSPORTATION
  • Athletes and Coaches are responsible for flights and transportation to and from the event. Please keep in mind current Safe Sport travel policies.
  • Phoenix (PHX) is the recommended airport.
  • Athletes and coaches are also responsible for transportation needs around Chandler, between the airport, hotel, and gym. It is easily walkable between the hotel and gym, with many restaurants in the immediate vicinity.


MEALS
  • Breakfast will be provided every morning at the hotel.
  • Lunch and dinner will be at the expense of the athletes and coaches on their own time.
  • Feel free to bring snacks or other food items that you would like to have between mealtimes.


GENERAL EVENT SCHEDULE
  • Jan 17th - Arrivals
  • Jan 18th - Competition Day 1 (Starting Early AM there will be a coaching meeting just prior to warmup)
  • Jan 19th - Competition Day 2
  • Jan 20th - Departure
Final schedule, start list and competition schedule, and training schedule will be published after the registration deadline.



SELECTION PROCEDURES
Selection Procedures: National Team Additions Spring 2023 - Junior | Senior

Selection procedures must be signed by the participating athletes, parents (if athletes are under 18 years of age) and coaches. Signed selection procedures can be emailed to Kyla Knights at kknights@usagym.org. Deadline for submission of selection procedures is December 23, 2022.

HEIGHT MEASUREMENTS
All pair/groups must report for height measurements immediately prior to their first warm-up session.



WARM-UP AND COMPETITION SCHEDULE
  • A start list and detailed warm-up and competition schedule will be provided at least 1 week prior to competition.
  • Exact times to begin stretch, warm-up, and competition will be listed on the schedule.
  • There will be no touch warm-ups on the competition floor.
  • It is possible for the competition to run one or two routines faster or slower than scheduled. While warming up, keep track of where the competition is and be prepared.
  • Please follow all instructions given by the Floor Manager.


STRUCTURE OF COMPETITION
This event will be used to add additional groups to the National team for the remainder of the 2023 season. This event will also be used as a re-ranking event for current national team members. If you are a current National Team member and wanting a spring international assignment you must compete in this event to receive a spring assignment.
  • 12-18, 13-19, and seniors will compete a balance, dynamic, and combined exercise.
  • Some levels may compete two routines the first day and one routine the second day of competition, while others compete one routine the first day and two the second day.
  • Judging will be according to 2022 FIG Rules, FIG Code of Points, and FIG Table of Difficulty.
  • No awards will be given.


JUDGES AND SCORING
There will be one panel of 9 judges, comprised of FIG judges without any affiliation to the competing athletes or clubs. The judges' panel will judge and score all exercises. Four artistry and four execution scores will be obtained. The high and low scores will be dropped. The 2 scores in the middle will be averaged and added to the D-score, less CJP & DJ penalties for the final score.

Scores will be displayed to the competitors and public immediately following each exercise. A list of results will also be published to coaches by email at the conclusion of each day. Final results will be available after the end of competition. Scores and placement will also be given to the Selection Committee for use in the selection process.



TEAM ANNOUNCEMENTS
Announcement of National Team & Spring Assignments will be published on Monday January 23rd in the afternoon after the close of National Team Camp.



TARIFF SHEETS
Tariff sheet deadline is Wednesday, January 4th, 2023. All tariff sheets must be submitted through KSIS

The judges will review tariff sheets submitted by Jan 4th and the Meet Referee will make all attempts to communicate any issues found on tariff sheets to coaches via email by Jan 13th.
Coaches MUST notify Dylan Maurer of a revised tariff sheet and email them to dmninja@gmail.com.



COACH ATTIRE
All coaches must wear club or athletic apparel with athletic shoes to be on the competition floor. No national team apparel that bears the USA flag or a national team logo may be worn at any time during training, warm-up, or competition. This includes warm-ups, t-shirts, competitive apparel, backpacks, duffle bags, etc. National team attire may not be worn even if the logo or flag has been covered. Unless otherwise requested by the program director, please leave all national team apparel/accessories at home.

The following dress code must be followed during all training, warm-up, and competition sessions. Violators will be asked to leave the event floor or training/warm-up area.
  • Warm-up pants, long pants, or capri length pants only. No shorts are allowed.
  • Team polo shirt or team t-shirt. Warm-up jackets are optional.
  • Gym/athletic shoes are required. No flip-flops.
  • No denim allowed.
  • No caps or hats allowed.


ATHLETE ATTIRE

Acrobatic athletes will be permitted to wear competitive apparel that bears the American flag.

  • During training, girls may wear long-sleeve or sleeveless leotards, and boys may wear shorts and t-shirts.
  • Girls may wear black bike shorts or leggings during training or warm-up sessions
  • Girls should not have any exposed undergarments or straps. Black or color-coordinated to leotard t-back sports bra is acceptable.


MUSIC
Submission deadline is Wednesday, January 4th, 2023. Music should be submitted via KSIS in MP3 format. Submitted music will be what is played during competition.

Please bring a back-up copy of music on a USB flash drive (all club music on a single flash drive).



SPECTATORS
Spectators are permitted. While the event is open to spectators it is not classified as a spectator event. View of the performance may be distant and/or obstructed due to the facility layout.
