2010 Super Clinic

The Super Clinic is an educational workshop with the goal of providing a variety of educational experiences to coaches, judges, Level 4-10 Athlete Members and Introductory Athlete Members participating in the Acrobatic Gymnastics Program. The Super Clinic is intended for 2nd year judges or above and/or new and current coaches and/or club owners.

WHO: Judges: Judges Clinic- 2nd year judges or above wishing to obtain new certification, renew certification, or upgrade certification. Instruction will include classroom, practical judging and in-gym learning.

Current Coaches: Practical Coaches Clinic - The Practical Coaches portion of the clinic will offer an unique opportunity different from other clinics. Attending athletes and coaches will have floor-time with some of the top clinicians in the country. During the Practical Coaches Clinic, coaches will have the opportunity to identify those specific skills they may need help with and work directly with the clinician to problem solve. Athletes will have the benefit of working closely with the clinicians. Athletes and coaches are on the floor at the same time ensuring nothing is lost in translation.

Coaches may invite no more than four (4) pair-groups to participate in the clinic. Coaches are encouraged to bring 2 lower level pair/group (Levels 5-7) and 2 upper level pair/group (Level 8 or above). The practical coaches' clinic is focused on coaches wanting to start training athletes at a higher level, learn new spotting techniques and drills for optional and advanced skills, review strength, flexibility and progressions for specific skills and understand deductions and routine construction from a judging perspective. Instruction will include classroom setting, in-gym learning and practical learning. Personal coaches will have the opportunity to be on the floor listening to the clinicians as they work with you and athletes providing a unique opportunity for the coaches to take notes and ask questions.

Introductory Athlete Members, Clubs, and Coaches: AcroBasics Clinic - The AcroBasics Clinic is for new clubs and coaches interested in starting an Acrobatic Gymnastics Program in addition to any current Introductory Athlete Member. Click here for the Introductory Athlete flier.

Coaches are encouraged to bring current Introductory Athlete Members to the AcroBasics Clinic. Top AcroBasics Clinician, Nancy Davis and Junior Olympic Committee Chairman, Selena Peco will provide hands-on, practical coaching for the coach and athlete.

During the clinic, coaches will learn the program rules, how-to-start an Acrobatic Gymnastics Pre-team Program which will serve as a feeder program for a Junior Olympic Competitive Program or merely serve as an additional revenue stream for your current gymnastics facility.

Coaches and club owners can also take advantage of the time to mingle and network with existing coaches, judges and club owners from across the country! Each AcroBasics Clinic participant will receive the following materials during the course:

SKILLS TESTING: Level 9 & 10 Athletes: Skills Testing - Skills testing will be offered on Monday, January 18 for Level 9 and 10 athletes. Please indicate on the athlete clinic form if you have athletes who wish to skills test.

CLINICIANS: Ivaylo Katsov
A former World Championships medalist and Master of Sport from Bulgaria, Ivaylo is now coaching at Mid-America Acro Tumbling and Trampoline in Owensville, MO. Ivaylo is the Chair of the National Elite Committee and has placed athletes on the national team and international competition delegations.

Marie Annonson
Marie first competed as an athlete in acrobatics on Tonya Case's team, California Acrosports Team (CAT), in Sacramento, Ca. From 1999-2002 she competed women's pair at numerous International events and at the 2000 and 2002 World Championships. During her athletic career her pair earned bronze at the 2001 Azur Acro Cup in Antibes, France; silver at the 2002 Machuga Cup Competition in Krasnodar, Russia; and silver at the 2002 Flanders Cup in Purrs, Belgium. In 2003 she started coaching and has taken numerous pair/groups to National and International competitions from 2004-present. Notable accomplishments her pair/groups have earned are National Team members, National Champions, 2006 IAGC World Team, 2008 gold medal in Swidnica, Poland, 2008 IAGC and World Team, silver at the 2008 World Championships and Gold at the 2009 World Games. Marie has completed the FIG Academy, Level 1. Marie currently owns and coaches West Coast Training Center in Livermore, Ca.

Kari Duncan
Kari is the National Technical Chair of the Acrobatic Gymnastics Program Committee in the United States. Kari is a national and international judge with the Acrobatic Gymnastics program.

Nancy Davis
Nancy was introduced to acrobatics close to 14 years ago when her 3 daughters got involved and it didn't take long for her to be hooked! Until recently, she was the Recreational Program Director for ATA with a student enrollment of near 850 student hours and a staff of close to 25 coaches. In the fall of 2008 she received a new commission and is currently working as Team Manager. Nancy's responsibilities include the management and supervision of ATA's competitive teams, which total 58 athletes in all. She has developed and is currently supervising our Pre Team Program. She is a regionally-rated Acrobatic Gymnastics judge as well as the JO Committee Chair for Region 1.

Selena Peco
Selena Chain Peco is the owner and head coach of Fliptastics. Established in Belle Chasse, Louisiana in 1999, Fliptastics is a family owned and operated acrobatic gymnastics club. Selena was first introduced to sports acrobatics at the age of 11 and was trained by Igor Ashkinazi and Jurek Pol from the New Orleans Acrobatics Team. She has been involved in every aspect of acrobatic gymnastic including tenure as a former elite competitor, choreographer, national clinician, national-ranked acrobatic gymnastics judge, and head coach.

As an acro coach, Selena has trained numerous national champions including athletes named to the Junior Olympic National Team and the Junior National Team. In 2000, Selena was voted, by her peers at the Junior Olympic National Championships, as Rookie Coach of the Year Award. And then in 2004, Selena was voted as Junior Olympic Coach of the Year. She has served as head coach on several international assignments including head coach at World Championships in 2006 and World Age Group Competition in 2008. In 2004, Selena was elected as the Chair of the National Junior Olympic Committee within the Acrobatic Gymnastics Program. With this position, she also currently sits on the Acrobatic Gymnastics Program Committee.
