PITTSBURGH, Pa., Aug. 22, 2014 – John Orozco of Bronx, N.Y./Team Hilton HHonors (U.S. Olympic Training Center), sits at the top of the senior men’s all-around rankings at the 2014 P&G Gymnastics Championships at Pittsburgh’s CONSOL Energy Center. Women’s gymnastics has its final day tomorrow, with the juniors at 2 p.m. and the seniors at 7:30 p.m. Men’s gymnastics wraps up on Sunday.

Orozco, the 2012 U.S. all-around champion, hit his pommel horse routine under pressure in the final rotation, and surged to the all-around lead with his 14.500. Orozco turned in six solid routines, earning 90.750 points. Orozco’s 15.750 high bar score tied for the event’s best mark of the night, and his routine included a Liukin (layout Tkatchev with a full twist) and a stuck full-twisting double layout dismount. Clean execution was key for Orozco, who also stuck dismounts off of parallel bars and still rings.

Jacob Dalton of Sparks, Nev./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Oklahoma), stands in second place with 90.250 points. Dalton broke 15 points on five of the six events, earning the session’s highest floor exercise score of 15.650 points for a routine that included an Arabian double layout mount and triple full dismount.

Currently in third is 2012 Olympic all-around bronze-medalist Danell Leyva of Miami, Fla./Team Hilton HHonors (Universal Gymnastics), with 88.900 points. 2013 P&G Gymnastics all-around champion Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Michigan), is fourth at 88.400 points. He earned the highest pommel horse mark (15.150).
