URBANA-CHAMPAIGN- Ill., April 19, 2019 – The stage is set for the team, all-around and event finals tomorrow night at the 2019 National Collegiate Men’s Championships at the State Farm Center on the campus of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The six universities advancing to the team finals are defending champions University of Oklahoma, Pennsylvania State University, Stanford University, University of Illinois, University of Michigan and University of Nebraska.
In the first session, Michigan had the best team score of 408.389. Stanford at 407.588 and Nebraska at 405.723 also advanced to the team final. The remaining rankings and scores were: University of Minnesota, 396.059, fourth; U.S. Naval Academy, 393.123, fifth; and University of California – Berkeley, 390.859, sixth. Michigan’s team event scores were: floor exercise, 71.432, highest score; pommel horse, 64.531, highest score; still rings, 69.497, top score; vault, 71.766; parallel bars, 65.032; and horizonal bar, 66.131. The top individuals in the event rankings were: floor, Vitali Kan, Minnesota and Michigan’s Kevin Penev; pommel horse, Joey Ringer, Stanford; still rings, Josiah Eng, Stanford; vault, Anton Stephenson, Nebraska; parallel bars, Blake Sun, Stanford; and horizontal bar, Ryan Sheppard, Stanford.
In session two, Oklahoma topped the team rankings at 419.191. Illinois and Penn State took second (410.324) and third (404.287), respectively, to qualify for the team finals. The remaining ranking and scores were: University of Iowa, 400.390, fourth; Ohio State University, 399.754, fifth; and U.S. Military Academy, 383.855, sixth. Oklahoma’s event scores were: floor exercise, 70.399; pommel horse, 67.699; still rings, 70.898; vault, 72.031; parallel bars, 70.033; and horizontal bar, 68.131.They had the highest session score on floor, rings, vault and parallel bars. The session’s individuals in the event ranking were: floor exercise, Jesse Tyndall, OSU; pommel horse, Michael Paradise, Illinois; still rings, Yul Moldauer, Oklahoma; vault, Vitaliy Guimaraes, Oklahoma; parallel bars, Moldauer; and horizontal bar, Hamish Carter, Illinois.
