PHILADELPHIA – Philadelphia and USA Gymnastics today formally confirmed their partnership to host the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics at the Wachovia Center in Philadelphia, Pa., from June 19-22. U.S. Athletes Take Medals in International Club Meets

Hall fourth in World Cup Final

Yuliya Hall, Idaho Falls, Idaho, took fourth place in women’s tumbling at the World Cup Final today in Birmingham, England. Samantha Palmer of Great Britain took first place with a score of 68.80, Anna Korobeynikova, Russia, was second at 66.80, Anna Terrenia, Belarus, third, 63.80, with Hall turning in a 63.20.  Hall earned a berth at the final during a two-year series of events where athletes earn points and are ranked accordingly.  The top eight women and top eight men are invited to the final in tumbling, trampoline and synchronized trampoline.

2007 Winter Classic set for Lubbock

The 2007 Winter Classic will be held in Lubbock, Texas, February 23-24 at the Lubbock Civic Center.  The event will be a qualifier to National Championships for Senior and Junior Elite athletes and will give them an opportunity to earn points for the National Teams.  Levels 1-10 are not included in this annual event; however, Air Extreme of Lubbock is hosting an event for those levels in conjunction with the Winter Classic.  A link is included in the Winter Classic information.

2006 Future Stars Camp

The 2006 Future Stars Camp took place again at the Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, N.Y. on September 24-28. The staff and coaches were excited to have beautiful sunny weather this year, while the gymnasts were disappointed that they couldn’t run and play in the snow.
The 2006 Future Stars Team consisted of 30 gymnasts from all over the USA. 28 gymnasts were able to attend this three day camp which was lead by Brooke Bushnell Toohey, Future Stars Director….

Philadelphia chosen to host 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – USA Gymnastics has awarded the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics to Philadelphia, which will hold the event at the Wachovia Center, June 19-22. The USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show will be staged at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in conjunction with the U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Gymnastics.

Townsend claims bronze medal at Glasgow Grand Prix and World Cup

GLASGOW, Scotland – Houston’s Sean Townsend won the bronze medal in the parallel bars at the 10th Glasgow Grand Prix and World Cup at Kelvin Hall International Sports Arena. Joseph Hagerty of Albuquerque, N.M., also competed in the event finals.

Bieger wins second gold medal at DTB-Pokal World Cup

STUTTGART, Germany – 2006 all-around world silver-medalist Jana Bieger of Coconut Creek, Fla., won her second gold medal at the 2006 DTB-Pokal, a World Cup event held in Stuttgart, Germany.

TORONTO, Ont., Aug. 29, 2006 – Rachel Marmer of Los Angeles won three gold medals and one silver in the individual event finals at the 2006 Junior Pan American Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Toronto, Ont. The USA won an overall total of four gold, two silver and two bronze medals at the Junior Pan Am Championships.

Erin Blanchard, Lafayette, La., took fifth place in women’s individual trampoline at the World Cup in Savognin, Switzerland over the weekend.  Blanchard, eighth after prelims, moved up to fifth with a score of 35.60 in the final round.  On the men’s side, Ryan Weston, Chubbuck, Id., finished in sixth place by scoring 38.10.  Weston teamed with Chris Estrada in synchronized trampoline, where they finished ninth.  Winning the women’s individual event was China’s Huang Shanshan, 38.40, while Yasuhiro Ueyama won men’s individual trampoline at 40.60.

2006 Winter Classic results

Results from the annual Winter Classic competition are now posted at the link above.  The event, held in Birmingham, Alabama, saw Chris Estrada and Alaina Hebert, both of Lafayette, Louisiana win men’s and women’s trampoline.  In tumbling, Chris Adair, Lubbock, Texas took the men’s gold medal, while Kaycee Melvin, Morton, Illinois was first in the women’s event.  Double Mini action saw Josh Vance, Grand Rapids, Michigan take first for the men and Shelley Klochan, Indianapolis, Indiana first for the women.

2005 world uneven bars and balance beam champion Nastia Liukin of Plano, Texas, has accepted an invitation to represent the United States in the 2006 Tyson American Cup, March 4, at Global Spectrum’s Liacouras Center at Temple University in Philadelphia.

USA’s top male gymnasts return to Las Vegas for Winter Cup Challenge

The nation’s top male gymnasts will make their annual trek to Las Vegas for the 2006 Winter Cup Challenge, Feb. 2-4, to vie for the 14 spots on the Men’s Senior National Team.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Jan. 10, 2006 –The 2006 Tyson American Cup, one of the world’s premier international gymnastics events, will showcase top gymnasts from 11 countries March 4 at the Global Spectrum’s Liacouras Center at Temple University in Philadelphia. 

In addition to the United States, the Tyson American Cup field is expected to feature gymnasts from Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Netherlands, Romania and Russia….

MAG: 50 named to USA Gymnastics’ National Future Stars Team

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. ‘ Based on results from the Future Stars Championships, 50 10-, 11- and 12-year-old male gymnasts have been named to the 2005-06 National Future Stars Developmental Team.

The 50 young men hail from 23 states, with nine from Illinois, six from Washington and five from Florida. The team is comprised of the top 18 from both the 10- and 11-year-old divisions of the Future Stars Championships plus the top 14 from the 12-year-old competition….
