In the most dominant performance of a women’s team at a world championships in recent history, the U.S. Women’s Team steamrolled the competition, winning nine total medals (four gold, four silver and one bronze). This year was the tenth anniversary for the Future Stars Championships which was held at the United States Olympic Training Center November 19, 2005. The Future Stars Championships features the best 10, 11 and 12 year olds in the United States performing special Future Stars competitive routines.

CYPRUS – Rachel Marmer of Los Angeles won the junior division’s all-around gold medal at the Aphrodite International Rhythmic Competition in Cyprus on July 9. Marmer, the sole U.S. athlete, earned a total of 52.5333 points to finish ahead of Israel’s Viki Portnov and Germany’s Johanna Gabor, who finished second and third, respectively.

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Dominique Moceanu, 23, the youngest member (14) of the “Magnificent 7” 1996 Olympic Gold Medal Gymnastics Team, slated to make her gymnastics comeback after a five-year hiatus at this weekend’s U.S. Classic in Virginia Beach, Va., has announced her withdrawal from the competition. Moceanu will seek treatment for achilles tendinosis and shift her focus toward 2006.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 24, 2005 – Alexander Artemev of Morrison, Colo., dislocated his right shoulder earlier this week during training and will undergo corrective surgery. He is expected to be able to return to training and competition in two to four months. As a result, Artemev, a member of the men’s national team for two years, will miss the 2005 Visa Championships. His status for the 2005 World Gymnastics Championships, Nov. 20-27 in Melbourne, Australia, has yet to be determined.
Artemev won the pommel horse and placed second in floor exercise at the 2005 American Cup. He was the 2004 national parallel bars champion.
Three U. S. athletes recently competed in the Canadian National Championahips in Vancouver, B.C. Shelley Klochan, 19, of Whiting, IN took second in Sr. Women’s Double Mini, while Nani Vercruyssen, Honolulu, HI, won first in Youth Women’s Double Mini and second in Jr. Women’s Trampoline. The USA delegation to the World Cup in France had some time to train in Levallois and to go sightseeing at the Louvre and on the Champs Eleysee in Paris (see photos) before competition on June 10-11. Athletes competing in France are Michael Devine, Alexis Diaz, Chris Estrada, Casey Finley, Chris Ford, Yuliya Hall, Alaina Hebert, Krista Mahoney, Kalon Ludvigson, Gus Roethlisberger, Jenny Wescott, and Ryan Weston.
After advancing to the final round, tumbler Yuiya Hall (Idaho Falls, ID) held on to take second place at the World Cup in Sofia, Bulgaria. In trampoline action, Alaina Hebert (Lafayette, LA) moved up three places to finish in fifth place, while Ryan Weston (Chubbuck, ID) finished sixth, the best finish for the U.S. in men’s trampoline at a World Cup event. WAUKESHA, Wis. (AP) – The town will dedicate a 10-acre municipal park to Olympic gymnasts Paul and Morgan Hamm on Saturday.
The twins, from the town of Waukesha, attend school in Columbus, Ohio but will be back in town Friday night, said their mother, Cecily Hamm.
Paul Hamm won the individual all-around gold medal at the 2004 Athens Games, and both brothers were part of the group that took home the team silver….
Alicia Sacramone continued her domination of the Vault apparatus, as she added another gold to her collection winning in today’s finals at the Paris Bercy competition. Sacramone easliy topped Lais Souza of Brazil and Aagje Vanwalleghem of Belgium. This marks Sacramone’s third World Cup vaulting victory this season as she was also crowned champion at the American Cup in February and at the Belgium event in April….
UCLA’s Kristen Maloney Voted Gymnastics Athlete of the Year
Gymnastics star Kristen Maloney, a senior at the University of California Los Angeles, has been voted the nation’s top collegiate female gymnast. The honor was based on the results of national balloting among 1,000 NCAA member schools as part of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program, now in its 29th year.
Maloney’s victory will earn her the Honda Award, given annually to the top women athletes in 12 NCAA-sanctioned sports as well as an automatic nomination for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year….

HOUSTON – Kyson Bunthuwong (El Cerrito, Calif.), the 2004 U.S. junior champ (14-15 age group), won his first J.O. national title today at the Men’s Junior Olympic (J.O.) National Championships.

INDIANAPOLIS – Olympic silver medalist Mohini Bhardwaj announced on Monday her intention to withdraw from the 2005 American Cup, Feb. 25-26 at Nassau Coliseum in New York.
Bhardwaj, 25, said her post-Olympic recovery has taken a little longer than expected considering all the factors involved.
“After having been on the road a lot since the Olympic Games, along with appearances lately, moving to Colorado Springs , and then having a severe cold for the past few weeks, my training is just not where I want it to be this early in the season, especially for a debut at a World Cup event,” Bhardwaj said….
