INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., July 18, 2007—The Western Championships, the final qualifying event for rhythmic gymnasts to the 2007 Visa Championships, are July 21-22 at the Newark (Calif.) Memorial High School Event Center. The Visa Championships, USA Gymnastics’ national championships, are Aug. 15-18, in San Jose, Calif.

 

The competition schedule at the Western Championships is: Saturday, July 21—10:20 a.m., junior competition (rope/hoop), and 3 p.m., senior competition (rope/hoop); and Sunday, July 22—10:10 a.m., junior competition (ball/ribbon), and 3 p.m., senior competition (clubs/ribbon).

 

Two-day tickets for the Western Championships are $25 per adult and $15 per child (ages 12-17), while single-day admission is $15 per adult and $10 per child. Admission for children younger than 12 years old is $5 per day. Tickets are available at the door of the Newark Memorial High School Event Center.

 

The first qualifying event, the Eastern Championships, was July 7-8 in Deerfield, Ill. The results from the two events are combined and the top 20 junior and 20 senior gymnasts advance to the Visa Championships.

 

The U.S. champions for men’s and women’s artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and acrobatic gymnastics are determined at the Visa Championships.  Artistic gymnastics will be held at HP Pavilion at San Jose, and rhythmic and acrobatic gymnastics are set for the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. The USA Gymnastics National Congress and Trade Show, held in conjunction with the Visa Championships, will also be at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
