INDIANAPOLIS, April 20, 2017 – Since its debut in 1999, National Gymnastics Day has evolved into a national celebration and promotion of gymnastics that includes local outreach, social media activation and charitable activities. Scheduled for Sept. 16, this year’s National Gymnastics Day will focus on fitness and gymnastics, as well as providing opportunities for children without access to gymnastics. Also in 2017, National Gymnastics Day will encourage gymnasts and gymnastics fans from around the world to participate in the USA Gymnastics “Share Your Skills Challenge.”

2008 Olympic all-around champion Nastia Liukin and two-time Olympian and four-time U.S. all-around champion Sam Mikulak have signed on as National Gymnastics Day co-chairs for the year.

“It is an absolute honor to serve as co-chair for National Gymnastics Day with Sam,” said Liukin. “We are excited about this national day of recognition for the sport that we love and hope everyone joins us in the celebration!”

Mikulak said, “I am thrilled to serve as a co-chair for 2017 National Gymnastics Day with Nastia. Gymnastics has taught me so much though the years. Through #NGD2017, I hope others can share their skills in effort to celebrate this fantastic sport!”

The “USA Gym Share Your Skills Challenge” is an all-day event for participants, gymnasts and fans alike to submit photos by using #NGD2017 when posting images on social media sites, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Prizes will be awarded for the most creative photos. Visit GymnasticsDay.com for updates and more information.
