DES MOINES, Iowa (June 25, 2022) – After five days of top-tier competition at the Iowa Events Center, the final 2022 national titles were awarded across the acrobatic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics, and trampoline and tumbling disciplines Saturday, as the USA Gymnastics Championships wrapped in Des Moines. Junior and Senior National Teams for all participating disciplines were also named.

Acro pairs and groups bring down house with combined exercises
Combined exercise titles were decided Saturday in all divisions, as the elite acrobatic gymnastics competition concluded with showstopping performances. After claiming the balance and dynamic titles earlier in the week, the women’s trio of Mariam Tutberidze (Owings Mills, Md.), Grace Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md.) and Kayla Vonder Haar (Laurel, Md.) from Emilia’s Acro Gymnastics and Cheer notched a competition-high 30.210 to complete the women’s group sweep. Their club teammates Ethan Chang (Columbia, Md.), Sam Lacy (Columbia, Md.), Cade Shields (Columbia, Md.) and Dorian White (Castro Valley, Calif.) also banked their third national championship of the competition, garnering a 27.240 in men’s group, while the men’s pair of Angel Felix (Moreno Valley, Calif.) and Braiden McDougall (Riverside, Calif.) of Realis Gymnastics Academy won their third-consecutive title, dating back to their senior debut in 2018. The duo scored their best showing of the week with a 30.140. Mo Arthur (Rolla, Mo.) and Ariana Katsov (Owensville, Mo.) of Mid America Acro Tumbling secured the top spot in women’s pair with a 26.760.

In the 13-19-year-old division, the women’s pair of Allyson Stone (San Antonio, Texas) and Ayla Vargas (San Antonio, Texas) of Acrobatic Gymnastics of San Antonio delivered a 28.790 to clinch their second win of the competition after earning gold in the balance exercise Thursday. Gia Calo (Annapolis, Md.), Sarah Wilson (Annapolis, Md.) and Grace Wright (Harwood, Md.) of International Elite also added to their collection of hardware. The trio, who previously earned gold in the dynamic exercise, topped the women’s group combined scoresheet with a 27.500. Seva Ossolodkov (Beaumont, Calif.) and Yaroslav Ossolodkov (Beaumont, Calif.) from Realis Gymnastics Academy took the men’s pair title with a 27.980.

Griskenas reigns supreme in rhythmic
Evita Griskenas (Orland Park, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) paced the rhythmic senior all-around field by nearly 12 points en route to her third title of the competition. The 2020 Olympian amassed a 253.650 across two rounds of hoop, ball, clubs and ribbon. She picked up national championships on hoop and clubs and was the runner up on ball and ribbon earlier in the week.

The Senior National Group, which trains at North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center, was also in action, earning a combined 41.400 across performances in five hoops and three ribbons and two balls. Group members Maria Bolkhovitinova (Northfield, Ill.), Gergana Petkova (Barrington, Ill.), Katrine Sakhnov (Sammamish, Wash.), Karolina Saverino (Elk Grove Village, Ill.), Hana Starkman (Plantation, Fla.) and Emily Wilson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) earned the senior group all-around title.

T&T national champions rise to occasion on high-flying final night
The future is bright for U.S. trampoline and tumbling after 16-year-old Ryan Maccagnan (Colorado Springs, Colo./Stars Gymnastics) and 17-year-old Shelby Nobuhara (Mapleton, Utah/High Altitude) locked down the men’s trampoline and women’s double mini titles, respectively. Maccagnan, a first-year senior, threw a 56.110 in Saturday’s final to claim the top spot, while Nobuhara, the reigning World individual silver medalist in double mini, set the bar with a 26.200.

AERE World Cup champions Sarah Webster (Lafayette, La./Trampoline and Tumbling Express) and Miah Bruns (Crete, Ill./World Champions Centre) continued to build on strong showings in Italy last month. Webster picked up her first women’s individual trampoline national title with a 53.390, while Bruns defended her 2021 women’s tumbling title with a 25.700.

The World Games team members Kaden Brown (Herriman, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) and Ruben Padilla (Bluffdale, Utah/Wasatch Trampoline & Tumbling) looked ready to take on the world in Birmingham, Ala., next month. Brown topped the men’s tumbling standings with a 26.900, and Padilla led the way in men’s double mini with a 30.800.

On the junior side, Xavier Harper (Oak Ridge, Tenn./Premier Athletics Knoxville) snagged the men’s trampoline (50.967) and tumbling (53.600) titles. Leah Edelman (Holmdel, N.J./Elite Trampoline Academy) was the women’s trampoline champion with a 50.897, and Brooklyn Jolley (West Haven, Utah/Northern Star Bounder) set the tone in women’s tumbling with a 45.967. Rosalie Thongphay (San Tan Valley, Ariz.) and Micah Miner (Glen Carbon, Ill./Kris Power Tumbling) split the women’s and men’s double mini titles with respective scores of 49.333 and 52.766.
