CHICAGO metropolitan area, Jan. 28, 2009 – During her two days in the Chicago metropolitan area, Olympic and world champion Shannon Miller spoke with thousands of local gymnasts and students when she visited gymnastics clubs and area schools to promote the 2009 Tyson American Cup, scheduled for Feb. 21 at the Sears Centre Arena in Hoffman Estates, Ill.

At each of the locations, Miller shared her gymnastics experiences and the life lessons she learned through competing, including the importance of fitness. She also spoke about the Tyson American Cup, which she won in 1993 and is one of the most prestigious international invitationals.

While at the gym clubs, Miller also interacted with the kids, signed autographs and posed for photos. The clubs she visited were McHenry Gymnastics, American Eagles, the Gym Spot, the Buehler YMCA and two facilities in the Chicago Park District, which is hosting the Tyson Fitness Challenge.

Miller visited three high schools – Fremd, Conant and Immaculate Conception – and spoke to student gatherings in either gymnasiums or auditoriums. Nearly 2,000 students and faculty heard Miller speak at Conant. She also challenged school gymnasts to a handstand contest at each school.

Miller is the USA’s most decorated gymnast, earning 16 world and Olympic medals during her competitive career.
