Sept. 5, 2014 – Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./Team Hilton HHonors (University of Michigan), and Simone Biles of Spring, Texas/World Champions Centre, have been nominated for the U.S. Olympic Committee’s August Male and Female Athletes of the Month, respectively. Mikulak chalked up 180.650 total points to come from behind and win his second consecutive men’s all-around national title at the 2014 P&G Gymnastics Championships, held Aug. 21-24 in Pittsburgh. Mikulak rallied after finishing the first rotation of day one in 24th place and didn’t take the lead until the final routine on the last day of competition. Mikulak also captured the pommel horse individual event title and was later named to the U.S. team for the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Nanjing, China.

Reigning world all-around champion Simone Biles clinched her second consecutive senior women’s all-around national title at the 2014 P&G Gymnastics Championships, held Aug. 21-24 in Pittsburgh. Biles earned the repeat with a two-day total of 122.550 points to defeat 2012 Olympic champion Kyla Ross (Aliso Viejo, California) and claimed individual titles in vault and floor exercise. As a result, Biles was invited to participate in the women’s selection camp for the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships Team.
