The University of Michigan and U.S. national champion Sam Mikulak of Corona del Mar, Calif./University of Michigan, won back-to-back titles tonight at the NCAA Men’s Gymnastics Championships inside the Crisler Center on the campus of the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. The University of Oklahoma was second, while Stanford University finished third.

In the all-around, Mikulak grabbed his third NCAA all-around crown with Stanford’s Akash Modi of Monmouth, N.J., and Sean Melton of Orlando/Ohio State University, rounding out the top three. All three are currently members of the U.S. national team.

The championships wrap up tomorrow with the individual apparatus finals, which begin at 7 p.m. ET.

Mikulak and Michigan began on the pommel horse, where his 15.600 lifted the Wolverines to a 75.100 total in the event. The Wolverines grabbed the lead after the first event and never relinquished it. Michigan posted scores of 73.200, still rings; 74.200, vault; 75.950, parallel bars; and 70.550, high bar. They entered the final rotation with a 2.350 lead over Oklahoma. They posted a 76.050 and a 445.050 to win back-to-back NCAA titles, the first since the Sooners won in 2005-06. Oklahoma posted a 441.650, followed by Stanford’s 436.300.

In the all-around, Mikulak posted scores of 14.750, still rings; 15.300, vault; 16.050, parallel bars, 13.350, high bar; and 15.950, floor exercise, in addition to his pommel horse total. Mikulak earned a 91.100, while Modi posted an 89.200 for second. Melton scored an 88.400 total in the all-around to finish third.

The top 10 athletes on each apparatus advance to the event finals.
