COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Nov. 13, 2009 – Davis Grooms of Champion Gymnastics, Connor Lewis of Integrity Gymnastics and Michael Burns of Hocking Valley Gymnastics won the 10-, 11- and 12-year-old, respectively, all-around titles at the 2009 Future Stars National Championships at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo.

Grooms won the 10-year-old division with an overall total of 90.950. Nikita Bolotsky of the Vitaly Scherbo Gym was second at 90.550, and Carter Webb of Oregon Gymnastics Academy was third at 88.700. The top 18 in the rankings qualify for the Junior National Developmental Team.

In the 11-year-old division, Lewis took top honors with a 90.600 total score. Favian Valdez of Orlando Metro finished in second place at 90.050, with Jared Debner of Alamo Gymnastics Center in third at 89.300.

Burns won the 12-year-old all-around crown with a 86.650 total score. Emyre Cole of Go For It USA took second at 83.250. Marcos Gatinho of Universal Gymnastics was third with 82.650 points. The top 18 in the rankings qualify for the Junior National Developmental Team.

The Future Stars National Championships features the USA’s best 10-, 11- and 12-year-olds in the United States who perform special Future Stars competitive routines. Based on the results at the championships, USA Gymnastics identifies the Future Stars Developmental Team, which includes the top 18 gymnasts in both the 10- and 11-year-old divisions and 14 gymnasts in the 12-year-old division. The top nine athletes in the 10- and 11-year-old divisions and the top seven athletes in the 12-year-old division will be invited to a special Future Stars camp to be held at the USOTC next summer.

The Future Stars National Championships are held in conjunction with the National Coaches Workshop, the premier educational event for the men’s program. In addition to the competition, Future Stars athletes and their parents will be able to participate in workshop activities that feature lectures, technical presentations, and hands-on coaching sessions. Presenters include Junior National Coaching Staff members, National Team coaches, sports science personnel, USOC staff and special guests.

The Future Stars program is designed is to identify talented athletes and to get them started on the right developmental path to national and international success. The program uses a special competitive routine format to evaluate the skill, strength and flexibility development of the athlete.
