AARHUS, Denmark, Oct. 20, 2006 – Due to an injured right shoulder, Chellsie Memmel of West Allis, Wis., has withdrawn from the uneven bars finals at the 2006 World Championships scheduled for later today. The USA’s Jana Bieger of Coconut Creek, Fla., will now compete in the uneven bars finals, along with Nastia Liukin of Parker, Texas; the defending world champion on this event.

"We talked to Chellsie and her shoulder has not improved sufficiently for her to compete in the uneven bars finals today," said Kathy Kelly, vice president of USA Gymnastics. "While she is disappointed, this is the right course. We will decide about the floor exercise finals tomorrow. We are very proud of Chellsie, and she has our full support."
Memmel reinjured her right shoulder during the uneven bars competition in the team finals earlier this week.
