RIVERDALE, N.Y. — Manhattan College announced the addition of three sports on Tuesday morning, including Acrobatics & Tumbling. Manhattan also announced the addition of men’s volleyball and women’s golf, with all three programs beginning competition in the 2025-26 academic year.

Men’s volleyball, women’s golf, and women’s acrobatics and tumbling have been added as varsity sports at Manhattan College starting in the 2025-2026 academic year, President Milo Riverso and Director of Athletics Irma Garcia announced. The additions give Manhattan 21 varsity sports beginning in Fall 2025.

“Our school’s athletic legacy and our investment in the future of our athletic programs shows how committed we are to building on Manhattan’s rich sports heritage,” said Manhattan President Milo Riverso.

“Our athletic program has a long tradition of excellence,” said Director of Athletics Irma Garcia. “These additional teams will offer more opportunities for student athletes to compete and excel.”

Acrobatics and Tumbling is an NCAA emerging sport and falls under the governance of the National Collegiate Acrobatics and Tumbling Association (NCATA). USA Gymnastics also oversees acrobatics and tumbling as a team sport through the sponsorship of youth programs.

“We are thrilled to welcome Manhattan College to the NCATA community and are proud to be one of the new athletic programs they will sponsor,” said NCATA Executive Director Janell Cook. “Manhattan College will be an incredible addition to the opportunities within the NCATA for young women training in gymnastics and cheerleading to compete at the varsity level while completing their academic pursuits.”

Manhattan is one of 12 programs in Division I, joining Baylor, Duquesne, East Tennessee State, Iona, La Salle, Long Island, Missouri State, Morgan State, Oregon, Presbyterian and Quinnipiac. The NCATA National Championships are held every April on the campus of a member institution, where the winners of event and team titles are determined.

A meet features six events, with a total of 20 heats. The meets progress in the following segments: Compulsory (4 heats), Acro (3 heats), Pyramid (3 heats), HALFTIME (15:00), Toss (3 heats), Tumbling (6 heats), and Team (1 heat). Scores are based on predetermined start values and evaluated on the execution of skills. In any given heat, 1-24 student-athletes may be competing as individuals or in groups.

Acrobatics and Tumbling is a spring sport with a 144-day season at the DI level. The search for a head coach will begin immediately.
