VARNA, Bulgaria, April 16, 2011 – U.S. tumbling champion Kalon Ludvigson of Pocatello, Idaho, advanced to the tumbling finals at the FIG World Cup in Varna, Bulgaria, on April 17. This is the first event in the International Gymnastics Federation’s trampoline and tumbling World Cup season.

Ludvigson posted the highest score in the tumbling qualifying round, 72.600. Russia’s Tagir Murtazaev was second at 71.700 and the Ukraine’s Viktor Kyforenko was third at 71.400. Scores from the first day do not carry forward to the final round.

More than 100 gymnasts from 24 countries registered to compete in Varna, including Belarus, Denmark, Spain, Russia and Ukraine. The event also has competition in individual and synchronized trampoline, but no U.S. athletes are competing in those events.
