LONG BEACH, Calif., May 10, 2014 – Level 8 and 9 Junior Elite and Junior Olympic national titles were decided today at 2014 U.S. Men’s Junior Olympic National Championships at the Long Beach (Calif.) Arena. 
 
The Junior Elite champions determined today are listed below.

Level 9, 14 years old
Nicholas Merryman of Brookline, N.H/Gym Village, grabbed the all-around title with a 133.950. The individual event champions were: Braden Page of Cypress, Texas/Cypress, floor; Merryman, pommel horse; Keeley Maigne of Homasassa, Fla./LaFleur’s, still rings; Joel Diaz of Cypress, Texas/Cypress, vault; Blake Sun of San Antonio, Texas/Alamo, parallel bars; and Nicholas Bauer of Kyle, Texas/Alamo, horizontal bar.

Level 9, 13 years old
Nikita Bolotsky of Las Vegas/Vitaly Scherbo School of Gymnastics, topped the all-around standings, posting a 139.000. He was also the top finisher on the pommel horse, still rings and parallel bars. The other individual event champions were: Vitaliy Guimaraes of Arvada, Colo./5280-North, floor and vault; and Khalil Jackson of Katy, Texas/Champions, high bar.

Level 8, 12 years old
USA Flairs’ Brandon Briones of Gilbert, Ariz., grabbed the top spot in the all-around with a 135.000 combined total. He also won the floor and still rings titles. Nicholas Stigall of Knoxville, Tenn./Tataru’s, topped the standings for pommel horse and high bar, while Alan Camillus of Flower Mound, Texas/Turner Gymnastics, won the vault gold medal. Gavin LaRoche of Queen Creek, Ariz./USA Flairs, was the champion the parallel bars.

Level 8, 11 years old
Garrett Braunton of Olympia, Wash./Black Hills, scored a 130.250 to win the all-around title. The event winners were: Marcus Voss of Bedford, Mass./Brestyan’s, floor; Evan Ng of Chicago/Lake Shore Academy of Gymnastics, pommel horse; Radel Gamboa of Phoenix, Ariz./North Valley, still rings, vault and parallel bars; and Samuel Phillips of Woodland Hills, Calif./Gymnastics Olympica, high bar.

The champions in the Junior Olympic division are as follows.
 
Level 9, 14 years old
Christopher McCord of Gymstrada earned a 154.750 to win the all-around. The individual event titles went to: Ryker Shaw of Madison, floor; Jacob Carlson of Somersault, pommel horse; Taylor Styer of St. Louis Gymnastics, still rings; Zach Peters of Interactive, vault; McCord, parallel bars; and Angel Haro of Payke, high bar.
 
Level 9, 13 years old
Angel Leon of Gym World Central won the all-around, floor, vault and high bar titles. The other individual event champions were as follows. Christopher Osgood of Victory, pommel horse; Josh Williams of Cypress, still rings; and Stewart Brown of Foothills, parallel bars.
 
Level 8, 12 years old
With a 147.900, Sam Roach of Gym Nation took the top spot in the all-around. William Gomez of Park Avenue won the floor and vault titles, while Gabriel Hotchkiss of Danik took the pommel horse crown. The rings and parallel bars gold medals went to Chase Clingman of Apex, and Jonah James topped the high bar standings.
 
Level 8, 11 years old
5280-North’s Kyler Hartley earned a 150.250 to take the top spot in the all-around. The event champions titlists were: Zyler Powers of Paragon, floor and vault; Mark Detrick of 5280-North, pommel horse; Carlos Lalonde of Premier, still rings; Adam Kerwin of Metropolitan, parallel bars; and Kofi Reeves-Miller of Roswell, high bar.

The U.S. Junior Olympic National Championships is one of the national championships of USA Gymnastics, the sport’s national governing body in the United States. Many Junior Olympic champions have gone on to make the U.S. National Team and represent the United States in international competition and/or to compete in collegiate gymnastics. All of the members of the men’s medal-winning 2004 (silver) and 2008 (bronze) U.S. Olympic Teams, as well as the 2012 Olympic Team, are former Junior Olympic National Championships participants. Past participants include Paul Hamm, 2004 Olympic all-around champion; Jonathan Horton, 2008 Olympic horizontal bar silver medalist and 2010 World all-around bronze medalist; and Danell Leyva, 2012 Olympic all-around bronze medalist.
