SINGAPORE, Aug. 24, 2010 – Polina Kozitskiy of Fountainville, Pa., advanced to the rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around finals at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. The finals will take place at 1:30 p.m. SST on Aug. 25.

Kozitskiy, who trains at Philadelphia Rhythmic Academy, qualified for the all-around in eighth place with a score of 91.975. She finished in the top 10 on all four apparatus during qualifying round, placing seventh in rope (23.475), sixth in hoop (23.475), ninth in ball (22.325), and seventh in clubs (22.700).

The top eight gymnasts in the preliminary round advanced to the all-around finals.

The U.S. Olympic Committee sent a team of nearly 80 athletes to the 2010 Youth Olympic Games, which began with the Opening Ceremony on August 14. The USA entered four athletes in gymnastics: men’s artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics and men’s and women’s trampoline.

In earlier competition, Savannah Vinsant of Lafayette, La., placed fifth overall in individual women’s trampoline, and Jesse Glenn of Northridge, Calif., finished eighth in the still rings event finals in men’s gymnastics. Hunter Brewster of Lafayette, La., was eleventh in men’s trampoline.

The Youth Olympic Games is an international multi-sport event of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that brought together 3,600 athletes (between the ages of 14 and 18) from all 205 National Olympic Committees and competing in the 26 sports of the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games wrap up Aug. 26 and feature a cultural and education program, with the goal of increasing participants’ awareness of the Olympic values and topics, such as healthy lifestyles and the fight against doping.
