RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (August 24, 2025) – Rin Keys (Porter Ranch, Calif./Burlo Gymnastics) claimed ball silver Sunday in Brazil to become the first American ever to medal at a Senior Rhythmic World Championships. The feat comes just two years after she claimed the country’s first medal at a World Championships as a junior in 2023.

Still just 16 years old and in her second year of senior competition, Keys notched a score of 29.050 in the ball final to secure her historic silver in a field loaded with talent. Her performance Sunday placed her second behind 2024 Olympic all-around champion and 16-time World medalist Darja Varfolomeev of Germany, who won with a 29.850. Italy’s Sofia Raffaeli, a 15-time World medalist and the 2024 Olympic all-around bronze medalist, picked up bronze with a 28.750.

Her medal-winning performance Sunday marked the latest feat for Keys this season, who this spring won gold in the all-around, ball, and clubs, and silver on ribbon at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships in Paraguay. She later swept all five titles at the 2025 USA Gymnastics Championships in Providence in June and went on to win ribbon silver at the 2025 Cluj-Napoca World Challenge Cup last month in Romania, adding to her international resume.

Also active in the hoop and ribbon finals on Sunday, Keys finished just off the podium on hoop with a 29.200 to place fourth and ranked fifth on ribbon with a 28.100. Raffaeli won hoop (30.650) and Varfolomeev ribbon (30.250). Outside of her medal-winning performance, Keys’ fourth-place ranking on hoop was the highest U.S. finish in final competition at the championships.
