SOFIA, Bulgaria, April 3, 2022 – Rin Keys (Porter Ranch, Calif.), who previously claimed bronze in the junior all-around, added silver on ball Sunday at the 2022 International Tournament Sofia Cup in Bulgaria, while teammate Megan Chu (San Diego, Calif./Emerald City Academy of Rhythmic Gymnastics) picked up bronze on clubs. The pair secured top-four finishes across the board in the junior division on the event’s final day.

Keys’ 26.650 on ball was bested only by Poland’s Lilana Lewinska who took the top spot with a 28.600. Finland’s Lia Kallio (26.350) rounded out the podium. Keys finished fourth on ribbon with a 27.150. Lewinska once again led the way behind a high score of 28.700. Romania’s Amalia Lica (28.250) and Bulgaria’s Nikol Todorova (27.550) were second and third.

Chu delivered a 26.700 to earn bronze on clubs. She finished behind Lewinska (29.100), who claimed three apparatus titles on the day, and Bulgaria’s Dara Stoyanova (27.150). Chu was fourth on hoop with a 28.200. Romania’s Christina Dragan (29.300), Lewinska (28.800) and Todorova (28.700) comprised the top three.

U.S. seniors Lily Avila (Highland Park, Ill./Vitrychenko Academy) and Daria Merkulova (Grayslake, Ill./North Shore Rhythmic Gymnastics Center) were also in action across the clubs and ribbon finals. Avila was sixth on clubs with a 24.550, while Merkulova finished eighth with a 22.100. Bulgaria’s Stiliana Nikolova topped the podium with a 31.800. Her teammate Magdalina Minevska (30.050) was second, followed by Australia’s Lidiia Iakovleva (28.550) in third. Merkulova’s 24.950 on ribbon landed her sixth. Bulgaria’s Eva Brezalieva claimed the ribbon title with a 32.200. Iakovleva and Bulgaria’s Boryana Kaleyn each posted a 26.950. They were second and third, respectively, once the tie was broken.

In the senior hoop final, Nikolova (31.300), Kaleyn (29.750) and Iakovleva (27.200) collected hardware. Iakovleva notched the high score on ball with a 28.850, while Brezalieva (27.500) edged Kaleyn (27.300) for the silver medal.
