PANAMA CITY, Panama (June 12, 2025) – Joshua Karnes (Erie, Penn./Penn State University) claimed all-around silver while the U.S. men put on a strong showing in qualifying Thursday evening at the 2025 Senior Pan American Championships in Panama.
Karnes posted a 79.900 in the all-around to win silver ahead of Diogo Soares of Brazil in third (78.800) and behind Felix Dolce of Canada in first (80.150), both of whom competed in the Paris 2024 Games. Karnes also will compete in Sunday’s finals after posting the third-highest scores on pommel horse (13.250) and horizontal bar (13.550) and fourth (13.650) on parallel bars to advance.
Fellow American Taylor Christopulos (Layton, Utah/University of Nebraska) took the fifth all-around spot with a 78.250. Christopulos will move onto two apparatus finals after ranking third on floor (13.600) and sixth on still rings (13.100) in qualifying. Also advancing to apparatus finals were Taylor Burkhart (Arvada, Colo./Stanford University) on high bar (13.750), parallel bars (13.300) and rings (13.300), and Brandon Dang (San Jose, Calif./University of Illinois) on pommel horse (13.850).
Junnosuke Iwai (Lewisville, Texas/Texas Dreams Gymnastics) stepped in to compete for the men after Asher Hong (Tomball, Texas/Stanford University) withdrew due to illness. Iwai will see apparatus finals on floor after posting a 13.600 for fourth in qualifying.
The U.S. men’s team qualified to the Saturday’s team final in first with an overall score of 241.950. Canada was second with a 237.050 and Brazil third with a 230.400.
