RIO DE JANEIRO (June 18, 2026) – The U.S. junior delegation opened Pan American Championships competition strong on Thursday, winning four medals, three of them gold. Americans won team and all-around medals while also qualifying through to individual apparatus finals.

The junior women tallied two gold and one silver medal in team and all-around competition on Thursday. Amia Pugh-Banks (Newport News, Va./World Class Gymnastics), Vivi Crain (Blue Springs, Mo./World Champions Centre), Addalye VanGrinsven (Champlin, Minn./Pacific Reign Gymnastics) and Sydney Williams (Frisco, Texas/Metroplex Gymnastics) claimed the team title with a 153.264, topping the podium more than six points ahead of second-place Canada (147.030) and host-country Brazil in third (141.931).

American women were dominant in the all-around, posting the four highest scores of the competition. Pugh-Banks took the all-around title with a 51.066, also qualifying through to the vault final in first (13.516; 13.600, 13.433) and the floor exercise final in second (12.800). Crain slotted in just behind Pugh-Banks in the all-around to win the silver medal with a 50.965. She also was the top qualifier on balance beam with a 13.200.

VanGrinsven (50.299) and Williams (49.698) had the third- and fourth-highest all-around scores of the competition but were not medal-eligible due to the two-per-country limitation. VanGrinsven was the only woman to qualify to all four event finals and will compete on uneven bars (first, 13.233), floor (third, 12.766), beam (11.700) and vault (12.983; 12.600, 13.366). Williams will join VanGrinsven in the bars final after qualifying second (13.166).

The American men’s team likewise topped the junior podium with a score of 224.394. The roster of Maksim Kan (Muskego, Wis./Salto Gymnastics Center), Ori Reilly (Windermere, Fla./Gymnastics USA), Anthony Ruscheinsky (Summit, Wis./Salto Gymnastics Center) and Hunter Simpson (Palmetto, Fla./EVO Gymnastics) won the team gold ahead of Canada (220.761) and Brazil (213.828).

Both Ruscheinsky and Simpson finished top five in the all-around standings, with Ruscheinsky fourth (74.165) and Simpson fifth (73.464). Reilly was seventh all-around (73.099) and Kan eighth (72.798). Reilly and Simpson each qualified to three of Saturday’s apparatus finals, with Reilly taking on pommel horse (second, 12.366), horizontal bar (fourth, 12.700) and parallel bars (fifth, 12.233). Simpson will compete on still rings (first, 12.166), parallel bars (third, 12.666) and vault (eighth, 12.616; 13.733, 11.500).

Kan is set for the pommel horse final after advancing in first (13.100) and the rings final after finishing sixth (11.966). Ruscheinsky was best on high bar (13.000) and qualified fifth (12.933; 13.900, 11.966) to the vault final.
