Harleysville, PA / U.S.A. – April 2015 – Over 1100 elite athletes from 7 states, gathered at the Montgomery County Sports Performance Center in Harleysville, PA (30 miles northwest of Philadelphia), to take part in the Region 7 – 2015 Men’s Gymnastics Championships. Over the four day competition, nearly 100 athletes, ages 12-18, qualified for the Junior Olympic National Championships that will be held in Daytona Beach, FL this May 5th through 10th.
The qualifying gymnasts were not the only winners last weekend; sharing in the victory was Operation Enduring Warrior, a local volunteer group supporting combat wounded veterans. The gymnastics community and Montco Gym came together to raise awareness and nearly $3000 for our Nation’s Hero’s!
“It was really awesome to see such generosity amidst such a competitive environment…this was a unique opportunity to unite the gymnastics community for a great cause”, said Phillip Zak, Assistant Event Director. “We look forward to continuing this effort and raising awareness in future initiatives.”
Operation Enduring Warrior is a veteran operated nonprofit whose mission is to honor, empower, and motivate our wounded service members through a physical, mental and emotional rehabilitative cycle modeled for overcoming adversity and hardship through innovation, teamwork and perseverance.
Other highlights from the weekend included a First Place finish from Montco Gymnast and Wissahickon High School Senior, Genki Suzuki. His younger teammate and National Developmental Team Member, Matthew Coombs, also qualified. In addition, Parkette National Training Center standout, Jacob Light, placed Second, qualifying to the National Championship Event.
