RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil, June 4, 2021 – Paul Juda of Deerfield, Ill./University of Michigan finished second in the all-around at the 2021 Senior Pan American Championships Friday at the Parque Olímpico – Arena Carioca in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to claim the final +1 quota spot for the Tokyo Olympic Games available to the U.S. men’s program. In addition to the four-person team, the U.S. will now be able to send one additional all-around gymnast or event specialist to compete in Tokyo.

Juda’s 83.000 led a U.S. contingent comprised of Michigan teammate Cameron Bock of Ann Arbor, Mich., Vitaliy Guimaraes of Norman, Okla./University of Oklahoma, Riley Loos of El Dorado Hills, Calif./Stanford University and veteran World medalist Donnell Whittenburg of New Berlin, Wis./Salto Gymnastics who traveled with the team as an alternate. Loos (82.150), Guimaraes (81.650) and Bock (81.200) finished fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively. Brazil’s Caio Souza took the top spot with an 84.450.

The U.S. finished second in the team competition behind host Brazil. Columbia rounded out the top three.

All delegation members are automatically qualified to compete at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials June 24-27 in St. Louis.
