BIRMINGHAM, Ala., April 18, 2014 – Kim Jacob of the University of Alabama won the all-around title tonight at the 2014 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Championships at the Birmingham (Ala.) Convention Complex Arena. Tonight’s competition also served as the qualification round with six teams advancing to the Super Six team finals on Saturday and the top four gymnasts on each event from each session advancing to the individual event finals on Sunday.
In the first session, the University of Oklahoma posted a 197.500 to lead. The Sooners were followed closely by the University of Georgia, 197.300, and Louisiana State University, 197.100. All three teams advanced to tomorrow’s Super Six finals.
The University of Florida, the University of Alabama and the University of Nebraska advanced from the second of the national semifinals. Florida and Alabama posted matching scores of 197.650. Nebraska finished with a 197.100 to grab the final Super Six berth.
En route to the all-around win, Jacob earned a 9.825, vault; 9.925, uneven bars; 9.925, balance beam; and 9.950, floor exercise. Her 39.625 edged out the University of Arkansas’ Katherine Grable and Florida’s Alaina Johnson, who tied for second with 39.600.
In 2013, the University of Florida won its first-ever NCAA team title ahead of Oklahoma and Alabama.
