COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Nov. 8, 2017 – Morgan Hurd of Middletown, Del./First State Gymnastics, won the women’s Best of October honors for the Team USA Awards presented by Dow, the United States Olympic Committee announced today. The other October honorees are figure skater Nathan Chen and the sibling ice dancing pair of Maia and Alex Shibutani.

In her world championship debut, gymnast Morgan Hurd was crowned the women’s all-around champion in Montreal. With teammate Ragan Smith withdrawing due to injury, Hurd stepped up to keep the American winning streak alive. In her trademark glasses, Hurd edged out Canada’s Ellie Black with an impressive performance on a difficult floor routine and extended Team USA’s all-around reign to seven straight world or Olympic titles. Two days after winning the all-around title, Hurd capped her sensational debut with a silver medal on the balance beam.

About the Team USA Awards
Each National Governing Body may nominate one female, one male and one team per discipline. An internal nominating committee selects five nominees from both the male and female categories, and three from the team category to advance to the voting round. Votes received from NGB representatives and select members of the media account for 50 percent of the final tally, with the other half determined by online fan voting via TeamUSA.org/Awards.
