Indianapolis – Olympians Morgan and Paul Hamm (Waukesha, Wis.) have withdrawn from the 2001 GymJam Men’s National Qualifier this weekend in Santa Barbara.
Morgan Hamm sustained an injury to his left shoulder the week of June 4th. Progress has been made and he is training with the goal of returning to competition at the 2001 U.S. Gymnastics Championships this August in Philadelphia.
X-rays have determined that Paul Hamm fractured his right tibia last week. Surgery, while not medically necessary, has been chosen as the route to fastest recovery. Paul’s participation in the 2001 U.S. Gymnastics Championships is doubtful.
Both Morgan and Paul continue to train as they are able, and expect to be ready for competition well before the 2001 World Championships.
USA Gymnastics will release more information as it becomes available.

Blaine Wilson

Blaine Wilson (Columbus, Ohio), two-time Olympian and five-time U.S. National Champion, suffered a shoulder injury sustained during a training session at Ohio State University the week of June 11. Surgery will take place July 16 in Alabama to repair two rotator cuff tendons. His rehabilitation will keep him out of elite competition through 2001, but as previously reported, Wilson has every intention of returning to competition once recovered.
