Leopold Zwarg moved from his native Germany to Philadelphia, where his knowledge gathered as an athlete paid dividends as an instructor, coach, and contributor to the sport.
Zwarg got his start at the Philadelphia Turngemeinde as a coach and Philadelphia’s public school system, where he taught physical education and established the Public High School Gymnastics League of Philadelphia.
A very hands-on and disciplined man, Zwarg judged most National AAU meets and Olympic tryouts and was a published author of three acclaimed books.
