Yancey was a longtime contributor in the sport, acting as an athlete, coach and leader until his passing in 2024. Serving as a coach for much of his life, he was notably the head coach to the junior men’s 2000 Pan American Games team that won gold and was president of the U.S. Men’s Gymnastics Coaches Association from 1992-2001. Yancey was well-respected in the gymnastics community, holding positions in multiple committees, including the Texas USGF Women’s Program Committee, USA Gymnastics Board of Directors and Men’s Program Committee, Texas Men’s Executive Committee, and serving as president of Gymnastics Association of Texas from 1996-97. He was an international brevet judge from 1988-2004 and was a Frank Cumiskey Service Award recipient in 2001, among many other accolades.
