Erwin Volze spent the majority of his career coaching the L.A. Turners. As the head coach of the program, Volze collected five AAU National Championships in the 1950s, including four consecutive from 1956-1959.
He also coached in Turnvereins in Cleveland, Sheboygan, San Francisco, Seattle, and Johnstown, Penn., but ultimately returned to the L.A. Turners.
The AAU Gold Life Member coached or judged in five Olympics, which included his coaching or instruction of five of the six U.S. gymnasts in the 1956 Olympics in Melbourne. Volze also judged local and regional meets at various levels, including the Good Will Tour in the Middle East.
Volze was also inducted into the Helms Athletic Foundation Hall of Fame for Gymnastics in 1960.
