Herbert Vogel started the women’s gymnastics program at Southern Illinois University in 1963. Six years later, he lost his first meet. Accumulating 16 NCAA Championships, his teams compiled an improbable record of 311-4. The Indiana University alum was selected as an A. B. Frederick Centurion for excellence in gymnastics and is a 1983 Saluki Hall of Fame inductee.
