Oftentimes great athletes change gymnastics, but in the case of Bill Torn, gymnastics changed him.

Following the 1956 Olympics, where he met and befriended Taiwanese athletes, Torn moved to the country and started its first gymnastics program. Following his time in Taiwan, the former L.A. Turner returned to the U.S., where he headed the men’s gymnastics team at L.A. Trade Tech for 32 years. He remained active into his elderly years, becoming a champion badminton player.
