Avis Tieber-Jamieson

Avis Tieber-Jamieson was a member of the 1962 World Championships Team. This was the first women’s World Championships. In other competition, she was the gold medalist on floor exercise and silver medalist on vault at the 1963 Pan American Games. She also earned medals at the National AAU Gymnastics Championships in 1960, 1963, and 1964.

Tieber-Jamieson was a part of the Crenshaw Athletic Club, which won the Women’s Team Championship in 1962 and 1963. Her awards include the Southwestern Sullivan Award and a Sullivan Award nomination in 1962. She received the Olympian Award of the Southwest chapter in 1964. She is also an Honorary Life Member of the Gymnastics Association of Texas in 1989.

As a coach, she coached the 1966 U.S. Women’s World Championships Team. In 1960, Tieber Jamieson received her BA in Physical Education from the University of Texas . She has been a professor of physical education at Brookhaven College.
